Pastor, Chris, Vickie Berdon
Are long-standing and faithful members of the church, distinguished by their deep commitment to the ministry and their heartfelt concern for those who are lost. Their dedication is consistently demonstrated through their tireless service and willingness to labor wherever there is a need. They are frequently found ministering at the altar, offering prayer and spiritual support to others.
Pastor Chris and Vickie faithfully serve in numerous capacities, including church maintenance, groundskeeping, sound ministry, Sunday school instruction, electrical and plumbing work, meal preparation, Bible study leadership, and preaching. Whatever the responsibility, they approach it with humility, excellence, and devotion.
If one word were to define Pastor Chris and Vickie Berdon, it would be passion—a steadfast love for the Word of God and a sincere love for His people.
Bishop
Steve, Karen Cole
Bishop and Sister Cole have faithfully served Athens First Pentecostal Church for more than forty-four years. On September 1, 2025, they were elevated to the office of Bishop, marking a significant milestone in a lifetime of devoted ministry. Bishop Cole is a man of deep love for the Word of God and for the people of God. Though he now serves in the role of Bishop, many continue to respectfully refer to him as Pastor, a testament to his enduring pastoral heart.
Bishop Cole is widely recognized for his profound wisdom and his exceptional ability to communicate the Word of God. Often described as a true wordsmith, his depth of knowledge and clarity of expression are evident within moments of conversation. Together, Bishop and Sister Cole exemplify a passion for ministry, a love for people, and a strong commitment to developing ministers—qualities that are clearly reflected throughout our fellowship.
Both Bishop and Sister Cole come from distinguished legacies of leadership within the United Pentecostal Church International. Bishop Cole’s parents faithfully served as Georgia District Superintendent for eighteen years. Sister Cole’s parents served as the first District Superintendent of the Maryland District of the UPCI.

Chuck and Brenda Gay
This husband and wife have faithfully served our church for nearly thirty years. Their long-standing commitment, dedication, and steadfast service have been a significant blessing to the congregation. In his role as Assistant Pastor, he provides consistent leadership and spiritual support, while also faithfully overseeing the care and maintenance of the church grounds. Together, they contribute valuable gifts and talents to the ministry, demonstrating unwavering faithfulness and a deep devotion to God and His church.
Minister
David and Wanda Templeton
We are honored to recognize our minister and his wife, who have faithfully served our church for the past eight years. Both have been an exceptional blessing to the congregation. David is a gifted and effective preacher, as well as a dependable and skilled handyman who serves willingly wherever there is a need. Wanda, a dedicated Sunday school teacher, brings a wide range of talents, insight, and encouragement to the classroom. Together, their commitment and service have greatly enriched our church family.
Music Ministry
Tonya Conwell
Sister Tonya has been a member of the church for most of her adult life. She is a highly gifted and talented musician and vocalist, known for her prayerful spirit and sensitivity to the leading of the Spirit of God. During worship, she often experiences a deep sense of God’s presence, expressed through heartfelt praise and reverence. Sister Tonya possesses a beautiful singing voice and is an accomplished keyboardist, and she also plays the drummer when needed. FPC is truly fortunate to have her and to benefit from her faithful service and dedication.
